I want to be a race car driver but I have no clue where to begin, help?

I love cars, ever since my uncle took me out in his 1969 shelby gt 500 when i was 3, I knew I loved the roar of the engine and speed and everything. I work on all my friends cars, and I work on my own car. (I have a Bronco with a 302 small block v8) and I know cars inside and out, I love speed I love cars I just have no idea how to get started on racing. I am going to go to college and continue my education after high school but it sucks because I feel like I am some stupid kid with a pipe dream, does anyone have any advice?
